Gateway Definition

** Provide the access (connect ) to resources ( the network nodes that can be shared ) outside the local Subnet

** To allow communication outside the local subnet

What is “resource” ? ( network resources )

For hardware : it is referred to SERVER and PRINTER
For software : it is referred to programs , utilities ( software tools )
For data : it is referred as the file or the data that can be access ( can be connected and share )

What is “access” ?

Connect to the network or network resource . Example#1 “ access to network “ ; Example#2 “access to server “

What is HOST ?

It can be workstation , server , network devices ( all must on network )

When Client ( workstation ) send a packet to Host that are not on the client’s subnet , the packet must pass through GATEWAY first before reach the host .

The Gateway is used to connect the Local Client Workstation to Remote Host .

What is Remote Host ? remote ?

The host that not in the local subnet . If there is one LAN#1 , then the Remote Host , mean , this host is not inside the LAN#1 . This Remote Host must inside other LAN other than LAN#1.
