Network+ Tutorial Oct 30 08_01

[Q369]

Node number = Host Number = Host ID

Network ID = Network Number

IP Address is consist of [ Network ID + Host ID ]

Example : 192.168.1.30 and this IP address’s subnet mask is Class C : 255.255.255.0

From Subnet Mask , we can identify the IP Address Network ID & Host ID .

From above case , the Network ID is 192.168.1 and the Host ID is 30

If there is 10 workstations , each of them has the SAME Network ID , that’s mean these 10 workstations are in the SAME Network ( within the same LAN ) .

If we want to divide these 10 workstations into 2 difference Networks ( difference LAN , say LAN#1 and LAN#2 ) , we can use “subnetting “ process to divide them into 2 difference networks. What we need to do is just making 2 difference Networks to have 2 difference Network ID .

First group of 5 workstations , say , have the Network ID as 192.168.1 and the second group of the 5 workstations has the Network ID as 192.168.3 .

192.168.1 and 192.168.3 are 2 difference Network ID ( their subnet mask is CLASS C )

The process of making difference Network Number ( network ID ) and Node Number ( Host ID ) is called SUBNETTING .
